I'd be interested in putting up a PR to resolve this if a maintainer was likely to have time to review my PR. Although I think it would require dropping 2.7 support but, I assume that is ok by now.

Looks like 2.7 support is dropped in tests, should be safe to go right @jaredmixpanel ?
