On MacOS, .m4a files can be loaded and imported to Mixxx without issue. However, on Linux (Pop!_OS 20.04), the Mixxx library doesn't recognized m4a files, nor does it allow you to manually drag and drop them from an external file manager.

We already support M4A/AAC playback using FAAD2 (2.2.x, compiled as plugin if available) and FFMPEG (stable in 2.3.0). Availability depends on if the maintainer of the Linux distribution has enabled it or not.

Pop!_OS 20.04 is based on Ubuntu 20.04. Please refer to https://www.mixxx.org/download/ or https://launchpad.net/~mixxx/+archive/ubuntu/mixxx how to enable the custom PPA.
