A valid use-case of the balance knob is to level the two speakers for the current setup. Recording and Broadcasting should not be effected.

A fix can be done together with Bug #1458213

Please be careful about how this is worded in the UI, it could be very confusing if for some reason a person expects the balance knob to affect recording as well.

Similarly, what about the master eq? is that for master output only? Does the master gain knob affect recording? Why should it if the balance knob doesn't?

@Owen, what is you conclusion?

Do you think that the balance knob should effect the recording in 1.12 or not?

Yes, the master EQ suffers the same issue. Its main use-case is to compensate the sound system.

The master EQ is a normal effect slot, that can be used later for anything. If we handle it the same like th balance knob, we cannot record the master effect.

It looks like we need a preference option if master effects should effect recordings and master channel that is applied to headphones.

The master gain is special. It is (should be) used to level the loudness of an output stream to the desired level in the master VU meter. Some user use it to set the volume.

I don't have a specific conclusion, but if we have some knobs that only affect master output, but other knobs that affect master output and recording output, we need to name them differently or people will get confused. Right now all knobs affect master and recording output, but if we change the balance knob it's inconsistent.

I'm not really interested in how things are implemented or what we think things "should" be used for -- I am interested in making it clear through the user interface how different inputs affect different outputs.

It looks like this needs good concept. Since we have no user complaining about this issue, I will remove the 1.12 target.

For now, a preference option that allows to set the sidechain tap point would be work best for me.
