Can you recall what happens before Monday? I think either Mixxx or the track must have changed. You may send me the track to my mixxx.org email address.

Mixxx uses MP4v2 to access the audio stream in an MP4 file. If this doesn't work either your file is unreadable/corrupt or MP4v2 doesn't work as expected.
Please send us a private message message with a download link to one of the files.

Hi
Sorry for my English, I'm french.
I can confirm the same issue on Manjaro with mixxx-2.2.2-2 and on Archlinux with mixxx-2.2.2-3
All files.m4a in my Music Folder did work fine before mixxx-2.2.2.
The last time I did use it was the mixxx-2.2.1-1.
The audiofile.m4a can be read perfectly with mplayer, VLC and other players.
I also try to compile directly from source with those build options:
build() {
cd "${pkgname}-${pkgver}"
export SCONSFLAGS="-j $(nproc)"
scons prefix=/usr \
build=release \
faad=1 \
modplug=1 \
perftools=1 \
perftools_profiler=1 \
qt_sqlite_plugin=0 \
qtkeychain=1 \
test=1 \
target=linux \
virtualize=0 \
wv=1
Here are the dependency for mixxx into Archlinux and Manjaro:
chromaprint faad2 gcc-libs glibc glib2 hidapi libFLAC.so=8-64 libglvnd libid3tag liblilv-0.so=0-64 libmad libmodplug libmp4v2 libogg libportaudio.so=2-64 libportmidi.so=libportmidi.so-64 librubberband.so=2-64 libshout libsndfile libtcmalloc.so=4-64 libusb-1.0.so=0-64 libvorbis.so=0-64 libvorbisenc.so=2-64 libvorbisfile.so=3-64 libx11 opusfile protobuf qt5-base qt5-script qt5-svg qt5-x11extras qtkeychain soundtouch sqlite taglib upower wavpack
Still unable to work with m4a files into mixxx-2.2.2-2 and mixxx-2.2.2-3.

The message "No AAC track found" appears if MP4v2 is not able to find an AAC audio stream in the MP4 container. This is a libmp4v2 issue and not a Mixxx issue. The MP4v2 code in Mixxx has not been modified and works as expected on all other Linux platforms.
Please note that MP4v2 has been removed from Debian Buster: https://bugs.launchpad.net/mixxx/+bug/1842208
I'm not aware of the current situation for Manjaro.
Fedora is not affected yet. The current RPM Fusion build 2.2.2-4 works as expected.

Thanks all for your quick responses. Looks like there is not yet arch support for libmp4v2-2.1 (https://pkgs.org/download/libmp4v2), which means that using scons to build mixxx with faad=0 and ffmpeg=1 flags is the next step to try.
The next part of this post may not belong on the bug tracker, but just as a follow up...
In following the compile directions (https://www.mixxx.org/wiki/doku.php/compiling_on_linux) I came across an error that said, "A compiler with C++11 support is required." This puzzled me for a long time because I'm using g++ 9.2, which has C++11 support. Moreover mixxx would begin compiling with scons 3.x before running into a problem trying to find the file controllers/ui_dlgcontrollerlearning.h (which I now presume is one of the reasons we use Scons 2 to build Mixxx), confirming that my compiler shouldn't be the issue. I eventually was able to trace the error to the retro version of scons in file .../scons-2.5.1/engine/SCons/dblite.py where line 100: self._dict = pickle.loads(p) was generating "ValueError: unsupported pickle protocol: 4." It seems that with my system, reading an open file with the file.read() function makes pickle.loads() think it is dealing with pickle protocol 4, which python 2 does not support. I eventually worked around this issue by changing to line 100: self._dict = pickle.load(f), which is certainly not ideal, but did the trick for me.
Things seem to be working as expected so far using ffmpeg instead of faad
Daniel Schürmann before Monday, Mixxx worked as expected with m4a files; files could be loaded and analyzed without issue. If you would still like me to send the files in question to you, I will, but at this point I think there's no need.

I suggest that we close this bug is "Invalid", because Mixxx can be excluded as the root cause for the issues.
Please check your system log for any changes of the local software configuration and installed components during the period before reading of MP4 files stopped working. I would feel more comfortable to know the actual cause for a bug, even if fixing it is out of our control and responsibility. The results of this analysis could still uncover valuable information that is worth documenting.

Here is the log for what I believe are the relevant updates. The ones that stand out to me are:
upgraded gcc-libs (9.2.0-3 -> 9.2.0-4) upgraded lilv (0.24.4-3 -> 0.24.6-1) vamp-plugin-sdk (2.8.0-1 -> 2.9.0-1) upgraded ffmpeg (1:4.2.1-3 -> 1:4.2.1-4) upgraded faac (1.29.9.2-1 -> 1.30-1)
upgraded faad2 (2.8.8-1 -> 2.9.1-1)
manjaro-release (18.1.2-1 -> 18.1.3-1) rubberband (1.8.2-2 -> 1.8.2-3)
Additionally under further review, I still have some issue loading some but not all m4a files (but have not yet spent any time trying to diagnose the issue myself

Hi
I found a workaround with Arch based distros to get sound in mixxx >2.2.2 with .m4a files.
Edit PKGBUILD and add <ffmpeg=1 \> at buuild() scons options
build() {
cd "${pkgname}-${pkgver}"
export SCONSFLAGS="-j $(nproc)"
scons prefix=/usr \
build=release \
ffmpeg=1 \
faad=1 \
modplug=1 \
perftools=1 \
perftools_profiler=1 \
qt_sqlite_plugin=0 \
qtkeychain=1 \
test=1 \
target=linux \
virtualize=0 \
wv=1
}
and makepkg -si. Very long time to compile, but that works.

I've changed the status to Won't fix, because the issue itself is still valid.
Issue closed with status Won't Fix.
Reported by: dgbirm Date: 2019-11-21T22:18:59Z Status: Won't Fix Importance: Undecided Launchpad Issue: lp1853527 Tags: linux, m4a, soundsource
OS: Arch-Based Linux (Manjaro Juhraya 18.1.3) Running Mixxx 2.2.2-2. Software was installed using pacman package manager. No external hardware was used
Problem: upon opening Mixxx and trying to load a track of extension .m4a, I encounter an error box with the message ''The file '/.../Earth,Wind&_Fire-Let's_Groove' could not be loaded''
Log: After checking the log file, I find:
This error just started happening on Monday. I have no issue playing the file in question with a different applications.
When I try to open an m4a file I analyzed in Mixxx prior to monday, i find:
Looks to me like there is an issue with decoding m4a file. I have these same issues with every m4a file I have.
Problem Solving: Tried reinstalling mixxx, and that didn't work. I've spent a large amount of time at this point looking for an explination/workaround, and haven't yet found a solution. Tried experimenting with some other plugins to handle m4a decoding, and was unsuccessful in getting them to load.
I do see that there have been related issues (https://bugs.launchpad.net/mixxx/+bug/1519472 , https://www.mixxx.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=8614), and that work has been done on this front (https://github.com/mixxxdj/mixxx/pull/1356). However, I haven't yet found the right information to help fix the problem.
Disclaimer: I'm still new to Mixxx. This is both my first real experience with DJing and my first real experience with looking under the hood of software of this scale. If I'm posting in an inappropriate place or missing something obvious, I apologize. Looking forward to getting involved with the community!
Full Log: Below is a copy of the full log after starting Mixxx, trying to open Let's Groove (first file that I've not loaded into Mixxx before) opening Mapolopolo Mane (second file that I have successfully played in Mixxx before), and finally shutting out of the application. Thanks for any help you can offer.
