Or should it just be # VERSION and it gets automatically added when a dist is built (and the dist version got committed by mistake)? :shrug:

Ah, I didn't spot this - I rushed out a 0.019 after spotting that the POD was completely wrong.

The build process is meant to be:

update version in the main module
run dzil release
the other VERSIONs are automatically updated

I've had this problem before, it's a dzil issue, will attempt a fix once I remember what's happened

Yes, I think this should fix it. I can make a dummy repo to confirm, I don't want to mess the git history up here (the dzil config requires being on the master branch etc)
