9 years ago To workaround/solve this personally. Instead of trying to significantly widen the lower holes. I just barely widened them up enough for the rod ends to fit in. Then I widened the upper holes enough that the rods freely drop through it.
Now instead of putting the X-axis on the printer the way demonstrated in the video.
- I drop the rods through the top holes and line them up.
- I raise one rod up and lower it through the bearings on one of the of the x-axis ends with the whole axis slightly rotated away from the printer. Then I push the rod into the lower hole on the motor mount.
- I raise the other rod up and rotate the x-axis so the other end is under the rod and make sure it's lined up with the rod. Then I do the same as the first end, lower the rod into the bearings and into the lower hole.
I actually like this method of assembly compared to trying to push the whole thing up into the holes.
When I had my parts printed I found the holes for the z axis smooth rods in both the z-motors and z-top-rodholders.
Using a drill to clear out room for the rods is fine. But there is so little space around the hole in the z-motors holder I worry that attempting to actually free up as much room as was available in the assembly video would break the barrier between the smooth rod hole and motor hole.
