software out of date #16

Closed pokeswap closed 10 years ago

pokeswap commented 10 years ago

The last update was in 2012. We are half way through 2014. Many, many security holes have been found and patched throughout that time (Heartbleed?). Also, 2012 software is just old. Back in 2012, this used to be my favorite distro, but, now, since it is so outdated, I can't trust the old doftware to really protect my anonymity (since the software is old and unsecure) Also, the linux kernel version used is vournable, again, being old

Closing as non-constructive.

I think this is a valid issue. There can be many, many vulnerabilities in software 2 years old. I think it is a major bug that all of the software is out of date--https://trac.torproject.org/projects/tor for a list of the known ones in tor itself

suqdiq commented 10 years ago

why don't you update it yourself ? :P i'll be making a pull request to compile correctly soon

pokeswap commented 10 years ago

because the documentation on building does not state how to update them all

jebriggsy commented 10 years ago

As this is a Gentoo build, the software will automatically update upon build. During the build, the latest snapshots of the packages are downloaded from the Gentoo Portage mirrors, compiled, and installed.
