webcamstudio virtual webcam (/dev/video1) does not work in skype #20

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 8 years ago

***Set output to 640x480, UYVY, 15 FPS

The webcamstudio /dev/video1 virtual webcam does not work in skype for me. It
works fine in the preview window as well as Cheese and VLC.

My real webcam (/dev/video0) works fully in skype.

webcamstudio does not appear in skype's test window, nor does it appear in the
preview box in-call, nor can the person being called see the video (confirmed
with bill-on-skype-video-echo video echo service).

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?

webcamstudio version: 0.57 DEV (92)
skype version: 2.2.0.25
linux kernel: 2.6.38-8-generic

Seems to be a Skype issue as I am unable to make it work with a real webcam...
Are you under amd64 or 32bits?

I tried it also with both Skype and Gmail Chat, neither one sees the video.
Both of them show the netcamstudio device (/dev/video1) and I can select it but
I see no video.
All I get is a black screen.

I was hoping to use wcs with both apps so I could rapidly change video source
without having to drop the connection, select the video source and call back.
Wonder what they do not like about the WCS video?

Oh yes, forgot. I can see the video in the previewer, I can see it in VLC or
any other app that will allow me to select the video device (/dev/video1) So it
is putting out good video. Just not sure why gmail and Skype do not like it.

Skype is only compatible with uvuy format, not RGB, maybe that's the problem.
Select format pixel in the output menu. Size will be set to 640x480' having
issues with othe sizes...

With Beta 2 I have the same issue with skype.
Even with uyuv format, skype will not show any image of the webcam.
The webcamm works directly in skype, also directly in flash under firefox.
It also works in webcamstudio preview.

kubuntu 11.04 64bits
logitech webcam c510
skype beta 2.2.0.35

I'll have a look again. If I remember well, the preview in Skype will not
work, but in a Call, it will...

Skype was updated recently, so I'll validate this again

I did some testing again, and something changed in Skype as it was working with
a previous version, and Skype Beta 2.2 is not working...

This has been a long struggle to be compatible with Skype. I don't know how
they are capturing, but there doing something wrong.

Anyway, I will still try to find a solution
