WCS System Load climbs to 100% apon opening #40

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 8 years ago

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. simply run/open the program
2.
3.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
WebCamStudio for GNU/Linux 0.57 beta 2 (Build:140)

Please provide any additional information below.

the previous version from the repositories never had this issue and obviously
once the program reaches 100% it effects streaming by making the framerate very
choppy, rather than a smooth 30fps

my hardware performance isnt even close to being effected while runing this
program, none of my quad core processors are even past the 25% mark while
running WCS and i have 4 gigs of RAM which idles around 500mb even with WCS
running.

so this is clearly a bug

another note, not sure why, but WCS doesnt even show up in my list of processes
running, i see Java which i know is used for WCS but even that process is only
using about 25%

im thinking the fact there are 2 mini "preview" windows on the WCS control
panel which cant be disabled is possibly causing unnecessary usage, even though
as i stated the program jumps to 100% even without actually running any streams

I am currently hunting this bug on my laptop. It happens when I play a movie
and the output is at 640x480...

I've just finished modifying the code to help this issue.

Could you provide me with a Studio generating this issue?

what do you mean by Studio generating the issue?

i posted the version of your program that im using

as stated, without even trying to broadcast anything it will gradually rise up
in usage till it reaches 100% after a while it may drop down and start
fluctuating around %80-100 but once i do try to broadcast it stays at 100%

the normal broadcasting i use with the program is "Desktop" view with the
160x120 output, 30fps, high quality

or a DV cam with the same output settings

By Studio, I wanted to know what kind of source you were using.

As for processes, you won't find WebcamStudio but java since this is a java
application...

Are you capturing the whole Desktop? Also, I found out that using a desktop
with compiz enabled, seems to trigger that weird issue where the CPU will get
to 100%...

I'm still trying to figure out why Xorg and Compiz are creating this. But
running in a classic desktop does not trigger the problem.

I've been also working on the output where the version you currently use is not
actually outputing at 30fps... I still have some tests to do, but things are
looking good.

Could you validate if you can trigger the issue in a classic gnome desktop
without compiz enable?

i never use compiz as my visual effects is set to none and i dont see it in my
processes until i switch it to "Extra" then i switch back and it closes so
thats not an issue.

i dont capture the entire desktop, the capture size is normally no larger than
320x240

what version of browser and flash are you using/testing, do you have an older
recommended version? i dont mind installing an older version if it will fix
things

This is strange, I am able to run WS smoothly on a laptop dual core with 2Gigs
or ram...

You said that compiz cannot be started on your setup? What kind of video card
do you have?

WebcamStudio 0.60 Alpha 1 seems to fix this issue

it shows a maximum of 776mb of memory at the bottom and rendering live desktop
capture only uses around 50mb and i get a steady 30fps

only issue i have now, is theres a slight delay when looking at the preview
built-in to your app, which translate into any flash cam site, even tho it says
30 +/- 1 fps almost steady

do you think this could be, because im using OpenJDK and not ORACLE java? is
there any known difference in performance?
