Any Github project that has a "homepage URL" will include thumbnail (of that URL). Further complicating matters are the facts that editing the "homepage URL" and "description" from within the Github UI is not obvious. Furthermore, the generated JSON "homepage URL" attribute is different depending upon whether that attribute has been edited (to empty). In other words, null and empty seem to be treated differently.
