@jmcglone I have found that several of the videos have a transcript of the performance within the print book. Some are not exact and will have to be edited to match the video, but, for those that closely align, can you tell me how the files should be provided? I have the book PDF in hand.
Captions are being placed here: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0B-CNui8jTxj4UTRFdjF5bVJCSlE
On 1/12/17, MBY uploaded the mp4 files to Melinda Kraft of ITS who handles our relationship with Cielo24. She will submit these videos for captions. Should have back in 48 hours!
1/13/17: emailed Melinda to see if Cielo24 can add in intonation. Also, issues with timing and typos. Once known, will send to Stephanie Rosen and LeAnn Fields for review.
1/19/17: Cielo24 will not do the intonation and sound effects for the files; I am awaiting word on whether they'll fix the timing.
Here is the email correspondence from Melinda:
Correction - here is what they told us. I have the ability to push this with our Cielo24 rep, but I'm not sure how much traction we are going to gain. It's possible that other captioning services can do this for you, but I've not researched the available offerings.
How would you like to proceed? Hi Melinda,
Thank you for reaching out.
Unfortunately, this is not a service we provide. I have forwarded your request to our Product Management Department for consideration in a future release.
Your feedback and feature requests provide us with valuable information that allows us to continuously enhance our product and develop new features.
Not all requests are implemented, and submitting a feature request does not guarantee that, but your idea is certainly worth looking into.
Please let us know if you have any questions in the meantime.
Sincerely,
Chloe from Support
1/19/17: This is the email that was sent regarding timing:
We submitted a video for human pro captions that has significant timing problems. This is in regards to the job titled Monkey - Fulcrum on the umich-teach-learning subaccount, which was submitted on 1/12/17.
The following analysis of this video is provided by Melissa Baker-Young, who is copied in this email.
In Monkey, after the titles, the announcer says "Grizzled aloof monkey". That caption remains up, though there is no longer any speaking. It is only for milliseconds, but my understanding is that there should be no caption on screen if there is silence (not the previous or next caption). There are examples of this, where captions remain up though there is silence, throughout the video.
Further, the next caption reads "[SOUND] [NOISE] [SOUND] Hello." before the speaker actually says Hello. In fact, when the speaker does finally say "Hello" the caption has moved on to "[NOISE] Welcome to the second". The timing continues to be off throughout this opening section.
In the rest of the video, the issue looks mostly to be captions disappearing before the speaker has finished speaking, or, captions being on the screen when there is silence.
What are our next steps?
1/30/17: Per Charles and LeAnn, we're going to move forward with the files that we have, which do not have intonation or sound effects. I sent the files to LeAnn on 1/30 to do further modifications and add in intonation and sound effects if wanted. We still don't have the full file for No Bees; I emailed Melinda for this again on 1/30.
2/9/17: Received from Cielo24 the No Bees webvtt file.
2/21/17: Edited No Bees captions and posted to staging, preview, and production. Sent to LeAnn for further edits.
10/19/17: Closing this because no edits have been provided. Will create a new ticket if we eventually get feedback .
We need to have transcripts for the Animal Acts videos.
We will do this either be creating ourselves or outsourcing to Cielo24.
