I've updated this page with more rambling of what's indexed, how to define permissions on an object, and how we could extend the prototype.

Please use the comments on this issue to further discuss the topic, since the wiki page doesn't have discussion (?!)

Gordon: I think your task would be done if the superusers can update a list of collection edit_users, and define a custom list for depositors (etc).
