QGIS v3? #3

Dear Mikhail

I'm trying to make this work with recent versions of QGIS, but it won't. Do you have any plan to update this?

Stéphane

Hi Stéphane, Thank you very much for letting me know. I'm still using version 2 myself, but I'll look into this.

mminin commented 4 years ago

Hi Stéphane, I've finally made a transition to QGIS3, will attend to this issue in a near future.

Hello Mikhail

In the meantime, Angelo managed to have the plugins ported in to python 3, so this is now working with QGIS3 The update is here: https://github.com/Hyradus/VO_QGIS3.x_plugin

I had suggestions to improve the workflow, you may want to consider those if you still have time to spare on this project:

1) The tutorial should be redrawn with QGIS3 layout & comments for first timers (most notably: Spectral tool has to be installed; layer to be selected at each step should be indicated)

  • I don’t think there is a need to disconnect QGIS from the hub to send spectra to CASSIS 2) downloading a cube in tiff format is nearly impossible (like 5 minutes from home…), and even the 4-channel preview is challenging …

4) There is room for improvement in the procedure:

  • I don’t see the need for 2 buttons to start the hub and then connect. It should connect to an active hub, or start one if none is available
  • The wavelength vector is currently included for all granules, in ascii form. This makes the table very heavy and this is not essential. Could we try and play with datalink to associate the adequate vector to each granules (as a function of channel)? It would be downloaded from the server on request, not from the table. But ideally we’d like to retrieve it automatically with the spectra
  • It is apparently not possible to send either the maps or the WMS links from the VESPA portal at this time (this is why the tuto uses TAPhandle). This may have to be handled on our side.
  • Ideally we would prefer to send spectra from the Spectral Profile tool in QGIS (rather than using the subgranule module in Firefox)
  • A clear list of design requirements should be available for people who want to set up a similar service (eg: is the s_region actually used? Requirements on the WMS server side?)

I hope everything is fine on your side.

Cheers Stéphane

Hi Stéphane, Thanks for the suggestions, that's in a different repository though, this repo is for various miscellaneous plugins unrelated to VESPA (sorting layers, continuum removal, etc). The issues on the VO_QGIS plugin should go here instead: https://github.com/epn-vespa/VO_QGIS_plugin/issues I notice that the suggestion 3) is missing from your comment?

Yes, #3 is on our side (portal), not on the plugin side

Cheers Stéphane

Dear Mikhail

I’m using this mail address because this is the only one I have to contact you. I attach below a mail from Data Science Journal about our paper still in limbo. It’s been stalled for 2 months because they didn’t tell me there was an issue contacting you. Can you answer them with me in copy asap, please ? That would settle the matter entirely - and please send me a more regular mail contact, I can use it in the future.

Many thanks in advance, Stéphane

Dear authors,

this is to let you know that you have been cited as co-authors for the paper "Virtual European Solar & Planetary Access (VESPA): a Planetary Science Virtual Observatory cornerstone", which was submitted to the Data Science Journal.

We noticed that, while you were listed as co-author in the manuscript, your name and email address wasn't entered in the journal management system, and as a consequence, you won't have been included in any previous email communication from our platform.

To make sure that we indeed have your consent to go ahead with the publication and that you are a co-author, I will require from you a brief confirmation that this is all in order to the best of your knowledge. Please note that we won't be able to publish until we have received communication from all authors.

Thanks a lot and all best wishes, Michael -- Michael Higgs Publishing Editor Ubiquity Press Ltd.
