X versus x for r.v #642

Open CL-BZH opened 3 years ago

Describe the mistake

I understood that the convention in the book is to use X for r.v and x for state (data). However, page 265 it is written "For data represented by a random variable x". And few sentences later x actually represents the (fixed) data.

Location

  1. version: Draft (2021-01-14)
  2. Chapter: 8.3.1 Maximum Likelihood Estimation
  3. page: 265
  4. line number: 5th line of the chapter

Proposed solution Use X for the r.v and x for the actual data.
