Probably wrong notion.

Via the random variable X, which maps states to outcomes, we see in the right-hand side of (6.8) [...]

Since X is the mapping X: Omega (outcomes) -> T (states).

  4. line number/equation number: second line after equation 6.8

Via the pre-image X^{-1}, which maps states to outcomes, we see in the right-hand side of (6.8)
