Can't seem to create a hotspot and the connection tells me there were errors.

Could you please try this:
Download the latest beta-version (currently beta7) available in the
download-section.
Open the app. Press "menu" and go to settings.
Select "Samsung Galaxy S2" from device-profiles.
Try again.

On my galaxy nexus,

I used the version 3.1 beta 7 and changed my profile to the Samsung Galaxy S2
as the above comment requested and only got one error this time:
"Activating WiFi interface..."
"failed"

The result is a hotspot is created and I can see it from other devices, however
when I attempt to connect the connecting device the connection does not
succeed. Sometimes I get as far as "obtaining IP address..." but usually I just
get "connecting..." indefinitely

same issue here. Failed to activate wifi interface on my galaxy nexus. I am a
donator and would lov to see this fixed asap. Thanks in advance!

I've also got the issue. For what it's worth, it even caused my phone to soft
reboot upon trying it once, though I wasn't able to replicate it past that.

Same here. Tried lots of changes to profiles, etc but no dice. Hopefully soon!

Same issue!

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
I also have a similar issue. I used the Samsung Galaxy II profile, and
everything seemed to work, but was unable to get an IP address when I tried to
connect to the hotspot. I haven't experienced any crashing though.

I should point out that the Japanese Docomo version doesn't have the built-in
tethering capability, which was my original motivation in wanting this app.
Others may be in the same boat as well.

Same problem here. Rebooted for me after trying the SGS2 profile as well.

Can you guys please download theis following experimental build, and try the
Samsung Galaxy II Profile:
http://android-wifi-tether.googlecode.com/files/wifi_tether_v3_1-pre108.apk

Does it give you an option for SoftAP under tethering method?

If it doesn't work. Can someone please upload a /system/build.prop file, and
possibly find a file called "bcm4330_aps.bin"

Go into terminal or adb, and type

$ su
# find / | grep "bcm4330"

The file and path should show up.

Original comment by j...@tekahuna.net on 16 Dec 2011 at 5:00

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
I didn't find bcm4330_aps.bin, but I did find fw_bcmdhd_apsta.bin. I've
attached that and build.prop at http://www.multiupload.com/6QMOVS4EE2. I can
upload the stock build.prop, too, need be.

Original comment by harpodel...@gmail.com on 16 Dec 2011 at 5:23

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
I suppose that goes to say that your build and suggestions didn't work.

Original comment by harpodel...@gmail.com on 16 Dec 2011 at 5:24

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
There was a few other wifi-drivers in the drivers directory on the phone, made
a zip out of them (dunno if they're useful). Build.prop also included.

bcm4330.hcd
fw_bcmdhd.bin
fw_bcmdhd_apsta.bin
fw_bcmdhd_p2p.bin

@harpo:

Thank you! I actually needed the path to that "fw_bcmdhd_apsta.bin" file,
rather than the file itself. Also, a stock build.prop would help out. I'm
wondering if toro is really you ro.product.device, or if the ROM maker changed
it. Cause I thought it was maguro, unless that's the gsm version, and
verizon's is toro...

Also, the attach files feature on here works well. Somehow I downloaded an
.exe file while trying to get to these files. :( Thank god I'm on a Mac.

Thanks, again!

the path is /system/vendor/firmware

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
/system/vendor/firmware/fw_bcmdhd_apsta.bin is the path to the file

As for the stock file, give me about 15 minutes.

toro is the device name for VZW LTE Gnex. I will get you a stock build.prop
shortly if the one supplied is not stock.

@sty & @harpodeltatheta

Thank you both for the files and info. From what I'm seeing of the kernel
sources, this firmware and driver is a bit different from what the SGS2 is
running. We are at the moment working on getting SGS2, and Epic Touch 4G, both
with the Broadcom 4330 wifi chipset like the GNEX to work in Infrastructure
mode. So, hopefully we'll be bringing all of these devices online with
Infrastructure mode soon.

Aloha,
Jeff

When I was using 2.0.7, I believe it ran in infrastructure mode by default.
