Please try the latest version of tether and report back. Also provide a logcat
of wifi tether running from start to finish. Also from terminal provide the
device names and ips of any non-carrier ip from the command "ip link".
Thanks!

I can't find a more recent version of tether after 3.1 beta 14. Any idea where
I can find it? Thanks

Have sprint galaxy Nexus 4.04 App, had worked then I got an update to build
IMM76K last week and now get the unable to open log-file error on start up and
no wifi tethering is the result. Have uninstalled and re-installed app 3,1
-beta14, help!

Also tried the beta 3.2 - same thing.

To Comment 4: I thought that IMM76K was a Verizon LTE/CDMA build of 4.0.4 and
I'm using that on a verizon nexus I just got via ebay recently (2 days), but
rooted.
To get it to work, I just used an older build of wireless tether as follows:
wifi_tether_v3_1-pre110.apk
You have to do a show all downloads to see it because it might be fairly old
but was for the nexus among others. It works fine for me on LTE or CDMA.
I guess I was under the impression that this was a jelly bean problem. Anyway,
it might be worth a shot to try that older build I listed. I am pretty sure
that build won't work on JB (well, none of them will yet)
Good luck -

Thanks Mickey, tried the older version but same thing. Wondering if I can back
out the build update....

I am also having this problem, on a custom Jelly Bean ROM: Bamf Paradigm 2.1.
From comments on their site, the developers' determined that attempting to use
this product permanently breaks their built in hotspot feature. A wipe and
reinstall is required. It appears there are multiple problems with Jelly Bean
compatibility.

Ok have some updates on this. I have it running on my S2 (with an AOSP-JB rom)
now - there will be one more additional "setup-method".
This might work on the nexus s with 4.1 as well.
Stay tuned ... will upload a new experimental-build this weekend.

Could you guys please try this version:
http://android-wifi-tether.googlecode.com/files/wifi_tether_v3_2-pre2.apk
Please chose the "galaxy nexus" in app-settings as device-profile.

Harold:
I just tried it on my Verizon Galaxy Nexus and it worked fine. Good job, and
thanks for the quick work. Much appreciated.
Are we for some reason supposed to use the 'routing fix' that is in settings
these days?

Great, so it works on the galaxy nexus. :) Still need to know if it's also
fixed for the nexus s.
Regarding routing-fix ... no, this options is only needed on HTC devices.

OK: Thanks again, Harold. Good work. I really prefer this to that built-in
hotspot.

There "might" be an intermittent problem, but it might just be me and I'm
having trouble repeating it.
Intermittent: After using the wifi tether, the DNS for WIFI doesn't always get
set back to whatever it is supposed to be (4.2.2.1, whatever). A simple stop
and start wifi will reset it correctly.
I'm not at all sure this is the result of what you did but I suppose it's
possible. Minor.

Sorry, my AT&T nexus s is out of commission after a drop so I cannot test.
Hopefully someone else can.

Using an LG Viper, I installed the v3 2-pre2, and now my Nexus 7 can at least
see that there's an Android Tether broadcasting, but it still doesn't obtain an
IP and give me signal.

Disregard my comment... I changed the profile to LG Optimus, and it worked.
Thanks!

I installed apk from comment 10 and still didn't work. Finally went to
Settings, Developer Options and enabled Root Access (I selected Apps & ADB).
Went back to WiFi Tether and it worked. I'm running CM10-M1 on Sprint GS3. Oh
yeah, for device profile I chose Samsung Galaxy S3. Once I got it working I
went to WiFi settings and encrypted with passphrase and SSID. To me WiFi Tether
is much faster than stock option, maybe because I can see my upload/download
numbers.

I have the same problem on Samsung Galaxy Nexus on AT&T Network with Jelly Bean
4.2 running. I even got some troubleshooting help from ATT to confirm that my
APN settings were correct. After confirming this I still could not get
Tethering to work.
