Wifi 'Error' after turning off Tether app on Sprint Epic 4G #853

Which device (manufacturer, type)?
Samsung Epic 4G (Galaxy S Variant)

Which firmware is installed?
Android 2.2 FroYo, stock except for root.

What version of wireless tether are you using?
wifi_tether_v3_0-pre10.apk

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Start tethering.
2. Stop tethering.
3. Attempt to re-enable WiFi from notification bar button.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Normally the WiFi would turn on and connect to the network on the button press,
but it seems as though the button press isn't even registered. Going in to the
main Wireless and Network menu and then Wi-Fi Settings shows the first option
(Wi-Fi with the checkbox to enable) saying only 'Error'. Tapping the checkbox
under this menu works to re-enable the Wi-Fi, so at least a reboot is not
required. This does appear to be an intermittent problem as it occured 4 times
in a row and now hasn't occurred after 4 more tries. I will try to capture the
log when I can get it to reoccur.

I have a Nexus One with Android 2.3 and the same issue as this person. I start
the techering and either I stop it or i stops working. Then when i try to start
it again, I get the error and sometimes my phones reboots. The only way I get
it to start back up is to reboot the phone.

I just posted the same problem... I missed yours in my search the first time
around.. I have found a few ways to avoid the issue:

1) Don't have wifi enabled and connected when running & enabling wifi tether.

2) If you do get stuck, you don't have to reboot. I also have Barnacle wifi
tether (a different app, same purpose). When I get stuck, I run Barnacle wifi
tether, enable it then disable it and close. After this I can use my wifi
manager again.

I think it might have to do with android-wifi-tether not correctly disabling
the wifi manager.

I'm also experiencing this problem with tether v3.1-beta11 on my Samsung Epic 4G
I am using the SleeperROM_2.0.04_EL30 of Android 2.3.6
I have the 2.6.35.7-Shadow-EL30_v2.0 Kernel

I am unable to get Barnacle to work either, so I am stuck with rebooting.
