I have the same exact problem. Google.com, Cnn.com; those I can see. When I
try ESPN.com it won't load, well not much of anything else will load. Thank
you for your time.
I'm rooted on EB13 deodexed
EB13 Dual FS kernel
3.0-pre10
I'm using an Epic 4G

Ahm. Maybe we have a wrong nameserver.
Are you guys able to open via ip-address such like:
http://8.20.73.105/
?
(that's www.nhl.com by the way)

Nope, I just tried that ip-address, and no luck. Funny thing is that I'm
leaving this comment via connection through the app! On 4g!

It's working on 4g, for some odd reason, at least on my phone (and maybe the OP
also) it seems that we can access anything google related on 4g no problem, the
problem lies when we try to get away from anything with google on the URL.

I can confirm the issue on an Epic 4G. It started with an update loaded on
2/25. Prior to that all was great. Now I see a connection between the
computer and the phone, but get no bandwidth except loading Google sites. I
started with Eclair and 2.0.7. I have since loaded midNIGHT v4.1 and
3.0-pre10. Neither work.

Ok. So, under which conditions are you not able to open a url?
http://8.20.73.105/
Is this on 4G only?

Well, I was trying wireless tether, the latest version, but for our purposes I
reinstalled wifi tether 3.0-pre10. Now, it just force closes on 4g, I'm going
to try 3g now.

Regarding the force closes ... please provide logcat-output!

Ok, well, like I said, I had tried going back to the wireless tether version
2.0.7 (I believe), now I can't anything going through 3g, it on shows 'limited
access' and on 4g it reboots. I am willing to provide any logs you might need,
please just walk me through it, I hope I'm not being bothersome

Ok, it didn't reboot this time with 4g on, but I'm not getting anything. My
computer is recognizing the wifi tether, but it either connects with limited
access or not at all, 4g seems to go to sleep, even as I'm trying to access a
website, seems like even though my computer says connected, they really are not.

Ok, up and running again. I started again. Wifi tether on 3g seems to work
with no problem, I'm sending this message with it. http://8.20.73.105/ I was
able to open that, no problem, through 3g. 4g same as before, can't open the
nhl page, nor any other nongoogle addreses (except CNN, that one I get to the
home page, and that's as far as that goes, on 4g). In short, 3g works, 4g is
not. Is there any other test you'd like me to do?

First. If you get a force-close please provide the logcat-output!
If you have "adb" installed/configured please use it to dump it. Something like
adb logcat > logcat.txt
would work.
Or use an app (available in market) - I don't personally use it bit it might be
helpful:

No, not force closing anymore. I erased and went back to a previous restore
point I had saved on my phone. I can use wifi tether without Force closes or
reboots. 3g wifi tether working great, even on the URL you gave me. 4g? Only
works on google addresses.

Maybe just a coincidence because I have been unable to get it to work. I'm
still stuck using easy tether and bring the usb cable everywhere like it
matters because the battery dies way to quick on the phones.

i did online with chat with sprint, the rep refreshed the service, i restarted
my phone and 4g was working again!

this may be alittle late but i found a workaround for this problem. For me,
having barnacle wifi tether running in the background allowed me wireless
tether to open up sites other then google
