2 years ago I just saved game configuration and it crashed client which is expected so anyways I relaunch game which prompt for game update and it updated fine here without any issues.
Maybe wait for launcher to install update files.

2 years ago I managed to install the cncnet launcher (for Yuri's revenge) by downloading the .exe from the website and installing it with wine-6.0.2. The only additional configuration that you need to do is installing XNA Framework 4.0 (xnafx40_redist.msi) from the official Microsoft website https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=20914 I can even host LAN games and update the client without a loop. The only time when the client crashes is when i host a LAN game, abort mission, go to main menu and try hosting a LAN game again
when I install and run the game i get a prompt that a new version is available and if I'd like to download it when i click yes, I get "two loading bars" that indicate the installation of the update after both bars get filled I get "kicked" out of the game - as in I'm now in the desktop and the game screen becomes tiny and dark and unresponsive, the only thing you can do is kill the process after killing the process I'm prompted again to install the update wat do
