can you post info of snap version

cdl787 commented 1 year ago

I installed cnc tsun from the ubuntu software center on ubuntu 20.04 LTS. It worked well all the time.

Recently i updated on ubuntu 22.04 LTS. I can start the tiberian sun launcher now, but if i want to start the game the speakers make a short click. Otherwise nothing happens. Uninstall and reinstall the game doesn´t solve the problem.

Info of snap version (i used "snap info cnctsun" in the ubuntu terminal)

name: cnctsun summary: "C&C: Tiberian Sun is a real-time strategy game." publisher: Taqi Raza (mmtrt) store-url: https://snapcraft.io/cnctsun contact: https://github.com/mmtrt/cnctsun/issues license: unset description: | C&C Tiberian Sun video game developed by Westwood Studios and released in 1999. The main storyline follows the second major war between the Global Defense Initiative (GDI) of the United Nations, and the global terrorist organization known as the Brotherhood of Nod. The story takes place 30 years after the GDI had won the First Tiberium War in Command & Conquer.

The gameplay has similar principles to Tiberian Dawn but with newer and upgraded units and structures plus three new types of tiberium that can be harvested. Tiberian Sun relies heavily on science fiction technologies, and introduces a new isometric game engine featuring varying level terrain to give the impression of a true 3D environment. Dynamic lighting allows for day/night cycles and special effects, such as ion storms. Maps feature cityscapes where units could hide or battle in urban combat. Some buildings and armored units are rendered with voxels, although infantry is still rendered as sprites.

During the campaign, different routes can be chosen, some of which can lead to optional missions that may affect the difficulty of the main mission, or supply the player with additional units and technologies. Tiberian Sun is the last game of the series to offer the split-route feature.

@cdl787 try snap from edge.

cdl787 commented 1 year ago

I tried the snap from edge (= latest/edge: 1.0 2022-04-24 (75) 131kB), but it still doesn´t work.

Using ubuntu 20.04 again would solve the problem for me, but this means i have to change the ubuntu version.

Or is there another possibility?

mmtrt commented 1 year ago

Did you tried changing renderer from settings see if it still happens, I'll investigate this issue.

mmtrt commented 1 year ago

seem to work fine for me on Ubuntu 23.04.

cdl787 commented 1 year ago

I tried changing renderer from the settings (= Default, Automatic, GDI, DDrawCompat, ddwrapper, Direct3D 9), but it doesn´t solve the problem.

But in DDrawCompat-mode i get an error message, which is:

„Programerror. A program on your system is crashed, but WineDbg could not build on the process to create a backtrace“

Does that help in any way?

I think if there is a program conflict, I could try to uninstall individual programs to see if it works.

Otherwise I probably have to use Ubuntu 20.04 again.
