Thread exceptions should be reported to user #110

Ensure that all threads created use the SwingExceptionHandler to report errors 
to the user. This needs to be used for tasks so that if something goes wrong it 
is reported instead of just logged.

Also make sure the error message is not too long. consider using a custom 
message box with a textbox with a scrollbar.
