I applied the changes. But I am not sure how to rebase this PR. I would suggest to do a hands-on in our meeting today right at the beginning.

@hbruch @derhuerst I squashed some of the commits and resolved the conflicts. Then I pushed the changes. Can you please check if everything is alright?
