This is an important feature for corporate environments where users don't 
install the
software themselves (they have no admin rights) but PC technicians/admins do 
that
preferably from a command line interface or automatic script.

Highly needed feature for corporate and government installation environments. 
We do 
not allow any users to install their own applications, and since the EULA 
change 
from this summer allowing government users access to the free GE version, no 
one can 
utilize the GE installer. 

Having an offline installer would be a much needed feature and assist our 
installation greatly.

I'm in favor of offline installation. The current Google installation scheme is
blocked by my corporate network policies which will not change.

I have the same problem. Our corporate firewall is preventing installation of 
google 
gears or the google earth browser plugin. When the installer attempts to access 
the 
internet to install the plugin, I eventually get an error saying that it's not 
allowed. I work for a very large corporation and although I've submitted a 
ticket 3 
or 4 times, it's pretty obvious IT isn't going to do anything about it.

I see that Google Earth 5.0 beta is out but still there is no offline installer.
I'll start looking for an alternative to that poor software.

Offering an offline installer would definitely increase the acceptance of this
software. Due to security reasons, I cannot use the Google installer.

this issue must be solved so that people behind firewalls that they do not 
control
can get the GE Plugin.  Also for Admins that must install software on because 
the
user is unable to.  A direct download source would be the first step.

This one may imo become difficult as google updater & installer seems to decide 
what 
package to download depending on OS and system configuration.

BTW: If you spy for the network traffic while setup.exe is working you will 
find the 
absolute location of the install package. ;-)

I think this is a very importnant missing-feature.
All the users do not have sufficient permission for installing a browser plugin 
and 
it'll definitely be helpful if the google Earth plugin for browser can be 
included 
in the application installer.

Want to echo everything said above. An offline installer to for users of
institutional networks would be extremely important. I couldn't even show GE to 
the
students in my class because the university blocked installation on all of their
machines.

Moreover, there are no valid reasons for requiring administrative access to the 
machine to install or run a simple 
browser plugin. This creates no advantage whatsoever, and only adds potential 
security holes.

Please, remove this requirement as well. It simply makes no sense.

Administrator privileges are required mostly because ActiveX controls may not be
installed without them. IE plugins are ActiveX based, unfortunately.

The comment about Administrator privileges being required because of Active X 
controls obviously doesn't make 
sense on OS X where there's no Active X and no privileges needed to what the 
plugin does (ie, use Open GL).

It is strange that I was able to install firefox into "My Documents" to skirt 
the
admin requirements for install but cant do the same for a plugin.
 My firefox path is
D:\My Documents\firefox by putting it here which was an option in the 
installer, no
extra privilege was needed. I think if you make an option to install in NON 
system
directories you'll find it just works.

Offline setup with really good instructions, including troubleshooting, is 
vital. 

Some developers in these forums claim that setup is simple and I personally 
have 
never had a problem yet, but the number of pleas for help from developers 
confirms 
my experience that many non-technical users really struggle with installation.

If non-technical users can't use what we develop, we might as well all give up 
:-)

Sat behind a firewall here too, cannot install the Google Earth Plugin, quite 
dissapointing to be honest. Would love a offline or alternative installation

So three years on. Can anyone point me to a place where I can get the install 
file? Seems a bit of a joke really. Our restrictive firewall won't allow its 
install. It could easily be installed if we had access to the whole install 
file.

The http://sites.google.com/site/gepluginnar/ website fix did not work for me 
in Firefox 7.0.  I even have local admin rights, and the online install still 
fails.  This issue is going on 4 years, please fix...

Management does not allow users install rights.  Some version do not require 
Win registry accesss and we can install that version.  Suggest all future 
versions have the option of doing so OR a 2nd version of the install executable 
be made available.

To save others some trouble, the link in comment #36 should not be used 
anymore. It utilized version 5.2 of GE Plugin, which uses API keys. As of 
version 6.0, those keys are no longer used and you cannot even generate them 
anymore. If we can get this updated to at least 6.0, we'd be better off.

The idea in that link works for me in a sandbox, but as soon as I deployed the 
code to a server it complained about the API key.

Considering that GE has an offline installer, I would think GEP would as well. 
One cannot even use an existing GE installation to show the graphics in the 
plugin.

For those of you having issues, here's what I did.  Install the Google Earth 
Plugin from Google's website:  
http://www.google.com/earth/explore/products/plugin.html

After install, go to C:\Program Files\Google\Update\Install 

In one of the folders you should see the google plugin installation file.  Mine 
was: GoogleEarth-Win-Plugin-6.2.2.6613.exe .  Using this, I was able to install 
the plugin using WPKG.  Here's a link to the installation file I used:
