Client config revamp #69

Closed mwild1 closed 5 months ago

mwild1 commented 5 months ago

This branch adds a new config mechanism to control the client listings.

Notable changes:

The plan is to have clients.json open to any clients that pass the basic compliance suites. The default starred apps are those that have "advanced" in both the core and IM compliance suites.

Looks good.

You could replace the Windows link for Gajim with the Microsoft store link:

You could replace the Windows link for Gajim with the Microsoft store link:

I haven't been a Windows user for a long time, but I'm curious what percentage of Windows users are happy to only get it from the store, as opposed to downloading from the original developer.

I see Gajim feature the store link prominently on https://gajim.org/download/ which suggests they recommend it, but they also have a couple of other download options for Windows. How likely is it that people might want those options?

Not sure either, but I hear that on newer versions of Windows you have to click through multiple scary warnings to install anything that is not from the store, so I guess for the lowest entry barrier it might be the best.

Ah, then, yes, it would make sense. I've asked in the Gajim MUC to see what they think.

I'm partial to the gajim site as well, never used their store, although the force it upon the users.

Confirmed with Gajim devs that the store URL is probably best, so I've updated clients.json.
