IMO it should look like MODX revolution backend looks like (a bit like website looks). Currently it looks like old Evolution and has old logo design, too. Or what did you mean by "limit to conventions used on website"?

It may be time to rethink the whole installer UX in general, maybe align with and prepare for anything that might be coming down in the roadmap over the next year or so. I don't have anything specific in mind, just noting that it's worth considering.
