What's the purpose in this? SMS doesn't support bolding, italicizing, etc.?
It would work similar to other messaging apps where the text is formatted by inserting symbols around the words you want to format. For example **bold** -> bold
My point is SMS doesn't support formatting, so why adid it?

Because it's possible to add, and it's something that a lot of people have requested
If this was to be added, I'd make it optional and not default, since it's not really an SMS/MMS thing.
I would also really like this feature. QKSMS used to do this years ago when I first tried it, pretty sure it was by accident. I wouldn't mind it being optional, off by default.
