Can't see days in the past, Canada Listings adjustment, no longer in market #1

I love this little app and I really hope it's updated and re-uploaded to the Android Market.

A few things I've noticed that could really help:

  1. Make Canadian Listings a combination of Canada & US. The TVRage API defines the US and Canada listings separately, but by adding an &US to the Canadian listings, you can get both in the same feed. This is more appropriate for Canadian TV as all of Canada has access to the US channels. Plus, with TV Rage having a lacklustre Canadian TV guide, it will make the listings more useful.
  2. Seeing data in the past. I'm not sure if this is a limitation of the TV Rage API or something else, but it would be great if you could browse the last week of data as well as the week ahead. At the moment, you can only see what is going to be on tonight and in the following 6 days.
  3. This app has been pulled from the market, possibly for lack of updates. Please re-submit. It's by far the most useful TV app around and I would love to see it flourish.

Thanks!

Hi Nihir,

Thanks for the comments. I did this app just for fun to experience the Android API a while back. I could revisit it and add some features, the Android API is quite limiting. I will see what I can do this weekend.

Regarding your comments: 1) That is a great idea, makes more sense that way. I will look into merging the lists together. The problem with that approach is that it will be two http requests instead of one to the TV Rage API, unless I manage the API myself (which means I will be paying for bandwidth). I will experiment this approach though.

2) I was experimenting a new API (full year API for TV Rage), but that turned out to be problematic. The reason why, couple of TV shows are being updated, cancelled, or even changed. Sure I can update every week but that is a lot of bandwidth. Plus the dictionary size is pretty huge, but it is good since I implemented caching on the dev version (not published). I will experiment on this too, to see what approach will run great on a mobile phone.

3) Yes, it is because they changed their ToS and I didn't bother logging in and adding this :) Once I update it, I will reactivate it.

Thanks for your comments. I will check back here when something is done. Currently I work for Research In Motion, hence why the lack of updates in the Android development!

Hey Mohamed,

Sorry for the late reply, the email got caught by Gmail as Bulk (their new Smart Labels feature.) I honestly wasn't expecting a response, but I'm happy to hear that you may spare some time to tweak a few features.

If you find that you need a hosted API, I have hosting and may be able to cover that for you if that helps at all. I'd love an update whenever you're done and if there's anything I can do, please let me know!

As for your job at RIM, seeing as they will allow Android Developers to submit apps to the App World for the Playbook, you may still be doing good for your company.=)

Thanks again for all your effort, I know I sure appreciate it and I've read the TV Rage forums and I know a lot them would love your app.

Cheers,

Nihir

Hi Nihir,

I went to New York City for the weekend so I didn't have the chance to work on any of this :) Hopefully this weekend if I don't travel :) I rarely travel, New York was last minute.

New York is a great city, who could blame you? Enjoy your trip!

Just following up, I know you've been crazy busy since G+ launched, but I'm holding out hope that this app makes a comeback at some point. It's honestly the most useful thing I've found, despite its simplicity.

I tried and failed miserably to try and create an alternative, but at some point I'll make another go of it.

Congrats on all the success recently. It's been great to see from afar.
