This is literally the project I was talking about maybe starting in this thread.

Glad to see you've already done so much! I would like to do anything I can to help you with this project. Also, could we consider doing the same for image files? I've been going around compressing image files for all of my favourite programs, and I think it would cooler if we could just introduce some kind of standard via BOINC.

This repo is the basis to allow anyone to launch a similar project. It's very easy to add apps. There's some helper PHP files that run the work unit creation with command line. If there's a photo cmd app it can be implemented by modifying the helper PHP file to add such tools.
