I did some housekeeping and fixed the output capture for cleaner CI tests.

As soon as this is merged I can resume work on validation.

Sorry, I thought this was incomplete. You want this merged before adding a #validate method?

It was. @benlangfeld asked for a merge because he needs this in develop to go forward with some other feature, I think. I can just resume right after.
