The widget was broken. With the addition it works for me (awesome v3.4.14 (White Christmas))

Please update to Awesome 3.5. They broke back compatibility with 3.4, also concerning awful lib.

I see no sense in introducing changes, that break 3.5 compatibility. Sorry.
