Multiple random user ID (max 50-80 char) instead of phone numbers as user ID #274

Is there an existing request for this?

Feature description

I would love to use Molly without phone number but similarly to SimpleX or CWTCH where you can have multiple (unlimited number of) randomly generated IDs (addresses) and thus you max privacy, anonymity and your traceability resistance.

As long as Molly uses Signal's server, nothing like this will be possible unless Signal itself gets rid of their phone number requirement.

If/when Molly has its own servers alongside the Signal ones, then the plan is for there to not be a phone number requirement.

Hi,

Can I set up a swarm of my self hosted Molly relay servers in the spring...?

Hypothetically speaking, would it be possible for Molly to have her own servers along with those of Signal? Could it be carried out? (I ask this question from my ignorance, from the level of the average user without computer knowledge)

Sure it's possible, and an eventual goal.

Can you do the phone number verification on client side, so without Signal server?

If so then we could have random phone numbers registered in the client.

And approximately when is this planned to be carried out? within 1 year? 2 years?
