basemap plugin does not recognise python2.6 #182

c. Have you selected manually plugins in the component list? What
plugins?
Yes

3. Have you selected the option "Customize installation directories"?

b. No
6. Have you installed Python(x,y):

    b. For "All users"

7. What is your operating system?
a. Windows XP

8. When you installed Python(x,y), were you logged in as :

b. an administrator of the machine
10. Regarding installed softwares on your machine, how did you clean your
machine before installing Python(x,y) (multiple answers are possible):
b. you uninstalled any previous Python distribution (including the
official .msi)
c. you cleaned the Windows registry by removing all Python-related keys
Yes
d. you cleaned the environment variables by removing all deprecated
entries
No.

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Download the basemap plugin
2. install it
3. during the installation it stops saying: Python2.6 not installed.

I'm having the same problem under Win7 64-bit. Pythonxy is otherwise 
functional, but the installation of Basemap 0.99.4 plugin fails. Tried both 
manual installation and installing through the installer by putting the file 
under plugins directory.

Also tried manual install and through the pythonxy installer. I'm using Win7 
32-bit.

It runs with python xy 2.6.5.3 and Basemap 0.99.4

I tried the  basemap install with basemap-0.99.4_py26.exe and 
basemap-1.0_py26.exe. 

Both times I received the "Python 2.6 in not installed on your computer". 

I am rumning Windows XP SP3.  Python 2.6.5.3.

I use a Windows SP3 version. I installed Python(x,y) 2.6.5.6, and when I try to 
install basemap-1.0_py26.exe, it says "python26 is not installed on your 
computer"
