Landing pages should provide an overview of the various different types of content #1213

For any given gene, variation, phenotype or disease page we have a ton of useful information, but this is split across tabs. Even clicking on the tabs is not always informative. Each on a gene page the phenotype tab provides tabular data with lots of metadata about each association. This is useful, but should be one level down. The user should immediately see: oh this gene is involved in polydactyly, cerebellar abnormalities, whatever.

This is an old mockup for a grant I wrote:

It's for a cell type pages, but the idea is transferable to other entity types.

Related ticket for variants and genotypes: #755 We want to add more content to our overview tabs and have this be the default/landing tab on all pages. Some ideas:

  • graphs/visualizations such as an ontology browser, charts, etc.
  • Phenogrid icon/short explanation that links to compare tab
