From GARD: We don’t have this term (we have a parent term primary liver cancer) For this one NCI uses Combined Hepatocellular Carcinoma and Cholangiocarcinoma which I think should be used.
From NCIT: To merge “intrahepatic bile duct cancer” with “carcinoma of liver and intrahepatic bile duct”, is not correct. The term “carcinoma of liver and intrahepatic bile duct” is a general, top level term that includes both “hepatocellular carcinoma” and “intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma” (what they call intrahepatic bile duct cancer). Intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (intrahepatic bile duct cancer) is distinct from “hepatocellular carcinoma”, histologically/molecularly/clinically.
The other suggestion to merge “intrahepatic bile duct cancer” with “combined hepatocellular carcinoma and cholangiocarcinoma” is also incorrect. The latter is an extremely rare form of primary liver carcinoma characterized by the combination of hepatocellular carcinoma and cholangiocarcinoma elements in an intimate pattern.
