To lower barriers to template creation and editing, we developed a term template specification system (Dead Simple Ontology Design Patterns; DOSDPs) [63]. This approach has worked well, but debugging can still require expert support. To further democratize templates, we will develop a web-based template tool to support cloning and modification of existing templates as well as built-in error checking. The tool will also support faceted search and hierarchical browsing of templates, a task which will become more important as the number of templates grows in both number and complexity.
Not being worked on: we are now validating DOSDP templates using an ODK/dosdp tools workflow through github, which is sufficient and much lower weight.
