Cattle breeds in VBO #125

@ImkeTammen reports:

I have worked through the worksheet that you shared (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1nwNY0bMmUWkUd_mUN4NXkOl5049NSitCuUrjtg5JN84/edit?hl=en#gid=981153673). Here a summary where I am so far:

  1. I have reviewed all the existing transboundary breeds and have made suggestions for change
  2. I have started to suggest additional transboundary breeds (largely those that are listed in the livestock breed ontology but are not a transboundary in VBO). This will require a little bit more work.
  3. I have made some comments in the local breeds (in response to suggestions made to the transboundary review).

I would like to discuss how to proceed. I guess I would like some feedback:

  1. Do the suggestions I made in relation to the existing transboundary breeds make sense to you and can we start implementing these?
  2. Is the information presented for the new transboundary breeds sufficient? If yes then I will complete this process over the Christmas break.
  3. Can we have a discussion what to do with the remaining local breeds that are currently having bos taurus as parent? These need to still be reviewed. Some actually should be linked to existing transboundary breeds, others appear to be true local breeds. This will however be a bit of a longer process …

I will:

  1. Add the updated taxon information, derives from relationships, db-xrefs to LBO that you recommend and synonyms for the transboundary cattle breeds. Is this complete and can I start on this?
  2. I will give you @ImkeTammen a spreadsheet for reviewing the LBO terms that are not in VBO if you don't mind.
  3. We cannot delete terms from VBO but we can obsolete and merge or obsolete terms if needed as you recommend.
  4. I recommend that we wait until there is confirmation that the DAD-IS synchronization pipeline is complete for obsoleting, merging and updating relationships between transboundary and local breeds. Sound ok @sabrinatoro?
  5. The local breeds seem to have 2 issues: 1. update parent if not Bos taurus (ok to do now @ImkeTammen if you have time ), 2. link as appropriate to transboundary breeds (hold on this for now).

@ImkeTammen I have carved out some time to work on the LBO db-xrefs for transboundary breeds. I just wanted to check with you to make sure that this is the most current work you have on LBO mappings to VBO: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1nwNY0bMmUWkUd_mUN4NXkOl5049NSitCuUrjtg5JN84/edit?hl=en#gid=0 columns "W" and "X".
