Greetings, Katie My understanding is that Gregoire's email is the clearest statement available. I doubt that this has even been mentioned in any document. We could ask Gregoire is there is any other suitable source, and, if not, if he is happy for us to quote his email. It would good to check the final wording with him. Would it help if I asked him?
In DAD-IS, the species name is occasionally used to represent the general population of the species in a particular country.
e.g. VBO:0001736 Alpaca, United States of America (Alpaca).
In these instances, we will add a comment: "This term represents the general population of Alpaca found in United States of America in DAD-IS. This term does not represent individual breeds and should not be used for annotations.
We need some documentation for this specifically that we could refer to in VBO. For now, please see issue #135 comment by @LeroyGregoire
