Logs of meeting

''' [2022-03-06 18:00:50] Hello everybody. It's MoneroKon meeting time. Agenda may be found here: https://github.com/monero-project/meta/issues/670 [2022-03-06 18:00:54] 1.Greetings [2022-03-06 18:00:54] [telegram] Hi 👋 [2022-03-06 18:01:08] Hello. [2022-03-06 18:01:32] <deedledea[m]> hey there! [2022-03-06 18:01:49] Hello [2022-03-06 18:02:31] 2. Update on questions/contract for venue (midipoet) [2022-03-06 18:02:42] there are quite a few updates on venue [2022-03-06 18:02:44] <ajs_[m]> hi [2022-03-06 18:03:31] firstly, we have received an amended/itemised contract. we had this last week - but there was a slight error on the dates, so we had to get it amended. [2022-03-06 18:04:09] i have a copy - but i think it should go to DR to review/sign. it includes the invoice itemised. for three days it comes to €1950 [2022-03-06 18:04:22] deedledea[m]: will i email to you or DM here? [2022-03-06 18:05:51] <deedledea[m]> midipoet: sounds good I’ll be on the lookout [2022-03-06 18:06:06] <deedledea[m]> email works best [2022-03-06 18:06:32] ⇐ jabster28 quit (~jabster28@81.111.217.63): Ping timeout: 250 seconds [2022-03-06 18:06:33] hello, sorry late [2022-03-06 18:06:46] deedledea[m]: ok - can you DM me your email please [2022-03-06 18:07:20] <deedledea[m]> midipoet: no problem [2022-03-06 18:07:25] <gnuteardrops[m]> Hello [2022-03-06 18:07:42] the 1950 covers the basic venue rental. we had also asked a series of follow up questions about the night time cost and the projector/screen. the night-time cost we received an email reply: [2022-03-06 18:08:04] https://usercontent.irccloud-cdn.com/file/cZZ0ETcI/photo_2022-03-06%2017.41.57.jpeg [2022-03-06 18:08:30] basically - we have to work with them on the planning of the night portion, genres/ dj's, capacity, etc [2022-03-06 18:10:17] they also clarified that the projector is €150 per day extra (as opposed to €1500 - which was a typo). however, it is still not clear what size screen that includes. [2022-03-06 18:10:31] so we have to follow that up separately. [2022-03-06 18:10:41] [telegram] I think the screen is not included [2022-03-06 18:11:02] [telegram] Do you know what size screen you want? [2022-03-06 18:11:15] @gramsdb ok, can we get a quote then for screen and projector, because alternatively we can rent them ourselves through a supplier that ajs[m] had found [2022-03-06 18:11:42] ajs[m]: do you know what size screen we should get? [2022-03-06 18:12:09] <ajs[m]> https://rental.digitalazul.pt/en/categories/screens-and-video-projectors/ [2022-03-06 18:13:32] <ajs[m]> ~2.66 x 1.50m [2022-03-06 18:13:55] [telegram] ok i will ask them for a quote for screen included [2022-03-06 18:14:16] ← js left (~js@2001:470:69fc:105::232): [2022-03-06 18:14:42] also, i asked a local monero community member (who asked to remain anonymous) to visit the venue. [2022-03-06 18:15:18] they took some videos (low quality). if people wish to see these, please DM me and i will share the links, as they did not want them publicly shared [2022-03-06 18:15:48] anything notworthy from the videos? [2022-03-06 18:15:49] they were positive about the vibe/space, but also didn't quite see where the inside speaking area could be, and were also concerned about an asbestos roof [2022-03-06 18:16:19] binaryFate: i think the youtube videos ajs_[m] found were better [2022-03-06 18:16:34] and gave a better overview of the place. [2022-03-06 18:16:45] [telegram] @midipoet we can arrange a site visit over the next 2 weeks and get videos/photos [2022-03-06 18:17:56] @manhuichi - yes that may be a good idea, as the ones we got were quite covert/and faced the ground quite a lot [2022-03-06 18:18:57] are there any questions/comments/concerns about the venue? [2022-03-06 18:20:21] [telegram] 🤣 what’s there to hide (re @xmr_events_bot: (irc) midipoet @manhuichi - yes that may be a good idea, as the ones we got were quite covert/and faced the ground quite a lot) [2022-03-06 18:21:01] @manhuichi i think they were worried about filming people without explicit consent [2022-03-06 18:21:46] [telegram] will definitely investigate any asbestos on the visit as that would be a concern [2022-03-06 18:22:26] in terms of the night-time planning, @gramsdb can we ask for links/soundcloud of available djs, and we can move decide from there. my own preference would be electro and techno, but others may prefer something else. [2022-03-06 18:22:50] is there anything else for the night-time planning that we need to consider? [2022-03-06 18:24:32] Transportation? [2022-03-06 18:24:50] msvb-lab: from where? [2022-03-06 18:25:25] Arroz is too far for walking for most people staying, for example in the city center. [2022-03-06 18:25:49] [telegram] There’s Bolt and Uber that are available and cheap :) [2022-03-06 18:26:00] So during the day it may be easy to travel from the venue, but maybe at night it is more difficult or dangerous (stepping in front of poorly lit street traffic.) [2022-03-06 18:29:31] msvb-lab: we could look into getting a party bus of sorts, perhaps [2022-03-06 18:29:49] like we did at DefCon last year (there was one, right?) [2022-03-06 18:34:32] ok, i am going to move on - if any further questions on the venue, either leave them here - or on the Cryptpad document (https://cryptpad.disroot.org/pad/#/2/pad/edit/NnjBlAV78oEKScZKVnqMOtox/) [2022-03-06 18:34:42] 3. Graphics/design (gnuteardrops) [2022-03-06 18:35:20] — gnuteardrops[m] uploaded an image: (109KiB) < https://libera.ems.host/_matrix/media/r0/download/matrix.org/oznnbMWygLwcZWRBlgxTpvWo/1.png > [2022-03-06 18:35:33] — gnuteardrops[m] uploaded an image: (84KiB) < https://libera.ems.host/_matrix/media/r0/download/matrix.org/bHmBFnfEUTWafwEFcpqSNevz/2.png > [2022-03-06 18:36:58] love it [2022-03-06 18:37:56] [telegram] I think a boat in Lisbon might be better than a bus… https://lisbonboatparty.com/ [2022-03-06 18:38:05] [telegram] I think a boat in Lisbon might be better than a bus for a party… https://lisbonboatparty.com/ [2022-03-06 18:38:05] it's probably the current world state of affairs bias, but I see a nuke [2022-03-06 18:39:08] <gnuteardrops[m]> Starting idea was a tree house. [2022-03-06 18:39:45] binaryFate: does it not signify the winds are strong (potential nuclear war)? and monero is a strong tree? [2022-03-06 18:40:07] I mean I see a nuke explostion first, then realize it's a tree [2022-03-06 18:40:29] <ajs[m]> is there some connection to trees? [2022-03-06 18:40:57] it seems matrix users cannot see the images uploaded? deedledea[m] can you see it? [2022-03-06 18:41:42] <deedledea[m]> I have no record of an image sent, anyone else having that problem? [2022-03-06 18:42:11] https://usercontent.irccloud-cdn.com/file/SOVIno9o/2.png [2022-03-06 18:42:15] https://usercontent.irccloud-cdn.com/file/uczbC7i2/1.png [2022-03-06 18:42:43] <deedledea[m]> great, got it thanks midipoet
[2022-03-06 18:43:20] <gnuteardrops[m]> I can come up with other ideas if necessary. [2022-03-06 18:44:43] <deedledea[m]> the concept of a strong tree and treehouse is comforting but not sure I get a direct connection either [2022-03-06 18:45:30] <gnuteardrops[m]> For me the tree and its roots represent our community, which is resilient and strong. [2022-03-06 18:46:00] <gnuteardrops[m]> I am open to any suggestions. [2022-03-06 18:46:42] we could try a different tree (more tree like and less mushroom cloud like) [2022-03-06 18:47:15] https://www.theirishroadtrip.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/Celtic-Tree-of-Life-min.jpg [2022-03-06 18:47:21] maybe more like that ^ [2022-03-06 18:47:38] <deedledea[m]> yeah a different version of a tree would be good to see [2022-03-06 18:47:57] <deedledea[m]> tree of life, nice! [2022-03-06 18:48:04] <gnuteardrops[m]> Noted [2022-03-06 18:48:07] https://media.istockphoto.com/vectors/tree-of-life-rainbow-flowers-version-vector-id1146655240?k=20&m=1146655240&s=612x612&w=0&h=d-H5liBNTLqWmxD1F1ap76c-SGoLWiSSCpjABG0bdNU= [2022-03-06 18:48:13] could also work [2022-03-06 18:49:21] <gnuteardrops[m]> Ok, I got the idea. [2022-03-06 18:49:48] shall we move on, and gnuteardrops[m] you can supply an v2 when you are able to (maybe next week?) [2022-03-06 18:50:08] <gnuteardrops[m]> sure [2022-03-06 18:50:25] 4. Agenda/speaker/CfP (if applicable) [2022-03-06 18:51:36] are there any updates on this from anyone? i had done a draft agenda - but until we get a signed/confirmed date, we cannot really start approaching speakers/nudging [2022-03-06 18:52:08] this is the draft agenda [2022-03-06 18:52:10] https://cryptpad.disroot.org/sheet/#/2/sheet/edit/QDhnIOd-LMu+JNUL4pToFiJ5/ [2022-03-06 18:52:32] potential speakers list here [2022-03-06 18:52:33] https://cryptpad.disroot.org/pad/#/2/pad/edit/VLnzpHrnKCwL9MwQ-aA7Ljlj/ [2022-03-06 18:52:45] please suggest/amend as you see fit on either of those [2022-03-06 18:54:21] 5. Agree next steps [2022-03-06 18:54:45] A tree exposed to wind is stronger because of that [2022-03-06 18:55:07] deedledea[m]: will you be able to review venue contract (email sent) this week, with goal of signing/paying? [2022-03-06 18:55:47] <deedledea[m]> midipoet: Yep shouldn't be a problem! [2022-03-06 18:56:01] @gramsdb and @manhuichi there are still some small questions left on the venue questions list, that we need to consider. one of the main ones is the info reqiured from venue for membership [2022-03-06 18:56:13] Oh to be disconnected from the natural world [2022-03-06 18:56:24] venue questions are found here (in red) [2022-03-06 18:56:26] https://cryptpad.disroot.org/pad/#/2/pad/edit/NnjBlAV78oEKScZKVnqMOtox/ [2022-03-06 18:56:43] <deedledea[m]> nioc: strength from adversity [2022-03-06 18:57:55] ajs
[m]: oh, i forgot to ask - have we had any proposals for talks/workshops [2022-03-06 18:58:11] msvb-lab: there was an idea of a kids themed workshop last week, is there an update to this? [2022-03-06 18:58:30] <ajs[m]> one came in [2022-03-06 18:59:00] <ajs[m]> and two potential sponsors [2022-03-06 18:59:16] There is no update to a kids area or theme, no. [2022-03-06 18:59:26] The person who pledged it is not attending the meeting. [2022-03-06 18:59:37] ajs[m]: can you say who the sponsors are? [2022-03-06 19:00:00] msvb-lab: ok, perhaps next week (or ask them to put in a proposal on the CfP) [2022-03-06 19:00:04] I have 2 potential sponsors too [2022-03-06 19:00:26] ajs[m] did a tiered sponsor package [2022-03-06 19:00:39] <ajs_[m]> i think it is better to keep it internal until they are confirmed

[2022-03-06 19:00:47] https://cryptpad.disroot.org/file/#/2/file/WWRKzUoiKXZIb8X7uVBwrrd7/ [2022-03-06 19:01:09] the issue is we don't really know how much to ask for each tier (at least that was the issue last week) [2022-03-06 19:02:36] the only figure we have to aim for (as an estimate) was the proposed value of the second CCS - which we thought would be ~@25000 to cover all speaker/volunteer travel and accom [2022-03-06 19:02:52] *€25000 [2022-03-06 19:03:08] <deedledea[m]> the tiers are well constructed and well differentiated, looks good ajs_[m]
[2022-03-06 19:04:56] I suspect we could get more than 25k if we wanted. Real-life events have been suppressed for a long time, compared to crypto interest and economy that kept growing. This is a (sponsorship tier) seller market :) [2022-03-06 19:05:39] binaryFate: would you be able to think about what price each tier could be then? [2022-03-06 19:06:27] and we can discuss next week, with a goal of approaching potential sponsors when we have venue contract/date signed and confirmed [2022-03-06 19:07:17] I can pull info from my own attendance/support of events and ask some people around for the pricing at other events and propose ballpark. [2022-03-06 19:07:40] binaryFate: that would be great, thanks [2022-03-06 19:08:04] we are over time, so 6. AOB [2022-03-06 19:08:20] one quick AOB [2022-03-06 19:09:19] I was chatting with Douglas (host of MoneroTalk) about Monerokon and potentialy their attendance [2022-03-06 19:09:51] He had this comment which I said I would quote at the meeting for everyone to see. Sorry for the multiline: [2022-03-06 19:10:03] How about the idea of having Monerokon overlap Porcfest. I know I was trying to avoid that but realizing since it will be difficult to make both maybe best if they overlap and then we can setup a “satellite conference” at Porcfest. We can turn our monero campground into a monerokon satellite conference. Stream your talks and maybe even have one talk stream from us to you. There are many interesting crypto OG’s that attend Porcfest I [2022-03-06 19:10:04] can probably get them to do a panel at our tent that we then stream to you guys. [2022-03-06 19:10:12] / end quote [2022-03-06 19:10:55] (Porcfest is June 23-26) [2022-03-06 19:11:37] would this mean moving dates of MoneroKon? [2022-03-06 19:11:57] (not sure about that option!) [2022-03-06 19:12:12] yes, which by now seems difficult IMO. Just wanted to forward his remark. [2022-03-06 19:13:44] i agree, changing the date seems difficult. however, it would be good to have MoneroTalk at MoneroKon. can we ask Doug if they could be present for at minimum the 18th June? [2022-03-06 19:14:27] Well I did and it's unlikely, due to dates too close to porcfest for them [2022-03-06 19:15:10] as al alternative, we could try and set up a MoneroTalk video bridge of sorts [2022-03-06 19:15:31] and they could stream live content that way (if they cannot be present). it is not ideal, however. [2022-03-06 19:16:57] Random suggestion I just thought about: would be fun to have maybe 1-2h to connect various Monero meetup groups around the world in a single call organized/moderated from MoneroKon [2022-03-06 19:17:42] Each group could introduce themselves and what's going on locally for them, what they do etc. [2022-03-06 19:18:15] we could advertise this idea, and see if there is interest [2022-03-06 19:18:53] once we have venue and date confirmed, we can propose a few ideas for interaction/virtual attendance [2022-03-06 19:19:17] <deedledea[m]> a distributed feed of Monerokon connecting people, I like it! [2022-03-06 19:20:01] ok, i think we should end the meeting here, as it is twenty past now. [2022-03-06 19:20:14] 7. Confirm next meeting time and date [2022-03-06 19:20:20] same time next week folks [2022-03-06 19:20:43] @gramsdb and @manhuichi did you want to have a Jitsi meeting on Wednesday (following the two-weekly schedule)? [2022-03-06 19:21:01] if so - just let us know here so we know [2022-03-06 19:22:34] [telegram] yes let's get on a call [2022-03-06 19:24:48] ok - so let's say Wednesday 18 UTC at the same Jitsi place for everyone. [2022-03-06 19:25:07] i think that is all for today then. thanks everyone (and sorry for running over time) [2022-03-06 19:26:59] <deedledea[m]> thanks all, bye for now [2022-03-06 19:27:25] thank you everyone, have a good evening or rest of your day [2022-03-06 19:29:03] <gnuteardrops[m]> Bye everyone [2022-03-06 19:29:19] [telegram] thanks [2022-03-06 19:32:56] Good meeting and thanks midipoet for the great moderation.
