Display of long JIDs #235

Please can a better way of displaying the fully qualified names/jids
(user@chat.blah.blah.blah.blah) be found as some contacts can use a whole
inch of vertical space.

Additionally the contacts list isn't "elastic" so dominates the screen when
attempting to resize the chat window to minimum workable size.

It remains important to be able to read the full address string but it currently
takes too much space. The ideal would be to display the full string without 
wrapping
and to be able to resize the contacts pane (i.e. vary the width of the column) 
to
show just the view that the user wants.
