perhaps diasbling USB (and using PS2 mouse/keyboard) would improve the jitter?
checked: yes, there is a PS2 mouse and keyboard port on the computer, but no PS2 keyboard in stock. Possibly a PS2 mouse but status unknown.
PCI ethernet card ordered. 2* PCI LPT cards ordered.

try disabling ECC in BIOS?
probably worth switching to beaglebone black with a CNC cape, use of on-chip timer hardware would be hard to beat. Might need an HDMI monitor...
PCI LPT Cards arrived - todo Install.
Jitter was 130,000 with onboard graphics (unacceptably high), but came down to 73,000 after installing a scavenged AGP graphics card.
Apparently <50,000 is non-marginal, and <35,000 is desirable. How could I bring it down further?
