Here's what the sample project looks like when I open it in MonoDevelop:

Xubuntu Linux 18.04. mono-complete, monodevelop, gtk-sharp3, and gtk-sharp2 are both installed on my system via the package manager.

If there are other steps to get this working, well, there is no README file for the sample project...

MonoDevelop 7.5, Mono 5.12.
