Serialosc often thinks my varibrightness monome is an older binary one. Unplugged and replugged the monome usually fixes the problem. Waking from sleep can also re-induce the problem (ie leaving the monome plugged in overnight with it working fine can go back to binary mode the next day).
To clarify, I am sending the right messages, the messages just seemed to get cropped to binary.
