What's the rationale for not allowing links to external pages? #33

Just allowing links to other wiki pages limits the utility of the wiki somewhat.

What's the pedagogical rational for not providing links to external resources? making sure students know the only safe truth it the one provided by self-contained teaching materials?

Quietly supporting markdown in the wiki would also allow students to "find" it and start sharing tricks with each other (it's how kids share tech tricks... You don't need to tell them, let them find them and share them...Surely we should be giving people an opportunity to learn how to do stuff and find how to exploit technology themselves, rather than constraining what's possible because we don't want to have to go to the grief of teaching them...;-)

I'm a bit confused by your request Tony. You can add hyperlinks to external sites in a wiki page, is that what you meant? The text format is html, with the added support of wiki-style [[]] for links to internal pages - we don't really need to support markdown given there is a rich-text type editor.

My apologies - late night, long hours - completely missed the toolbar toggle button:-(

Just by the by, what's the logic behind greying/ungreying the link buttons?
