The non gerrit solution #1

Hey, nice work. I already did it a week ago in a way that also works with non gerrit repos. Maybe you can take a look and use some of this. http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:Version

That's great! I'll take a look at it. You're using git-only solution? So no fallback for users without Git?

We might be able to cooperate on this project here, since yours seem to be getting solutions off gerrit, and mine seems to allow non-git users to get updates too (somewhat at least).

Yes my solution builds on top of GitInfo Class that was added in latest mw version. It only works when cloning extensions from git. So when using SVN or downloading extensions does not give any result. You can take a look on an example here. http://www.wecowi.de/wiki/Spezial:ErweiterungenVersion There you also can see what happens with SVN and no git extensions.
