Can't play AC3 from Matroska container? #28

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
n/a

What is the expected output? What happens instead?
The expected output is 6 channel audio, but I don't hear it.

What version of the driver are you using? On what operating system? What
version of the operationg system are you using (32 or 64 bit)?
32bit XP Pro, latest version of the drivers up till now.

What ports of the soundcard are affected by the bug (e.g. SPDIF, Mic-In)?
SPDIF.

Please provide any additional information below.

No matter how many codecs I try (tried it with almost nothing on my system
installed), it seems that al 6channel AC3 audio in matroska containers
(mkv) doens't work, while 6 channel AC3 audio in AVI files DO work. Some
goes for DTS streams in mkv files.

How can I solve this?

What player software have you tried?
Also, can you provide a snippet of the MKV file in question?

I tried:

MPC
WMP
Zoom Player
BSPlayer

I found out something weird. When disabling passthrough I can hear the sound (it
sends 2ch audio to my receiver), but not the sound which is supposed to come
from the
centerspweakers (voices :S).

VLC doesn't work either when choosing SP/DIF output, but when choosing 2ch
output
(stereo) it will output sound better (in other words: it DOES send the center
channel
to my receiver).

I don't have a snippet right now (not at home), I have it with multiple mkv
files
containing AC3 (thusfar ALL mkv's with AC3). I can post some output from
matroskadiag:

Codec : Dolby AC3 (A_AC3)
Possible filter : AC3 Filter
Installed : yes, in C:\Program Files\AC3Filter\ac3filter.ax (1.3.1.0)
Link : http://ac3filter.sourceforge.net
Language : English (eng)
Sampling Frequency : 48000
Channels : 6

All files have similar/same output. While another AC3 3/2.1 6 chnls 48khz audio
stream from an avi worked like a charm.

Can you try to extract the AC3 sound stream from the mkv and then test whether
it
plays with MPC?

This weekend, I've made some tests with MPC 6.4.9.0 and several MKV files
containing
AC3 or dts streams, but I failed to reproduce the bug.

I don't know if this will solve your problem. I have audio AC3 problem with
other
tool, and this help. You may want to try download AC3 filter 1.51a in
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/AC3_Filter.htm
