Sound Dies after a Couple of minutes

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Configure driver 
2. Try to set sound defaults
3. Output works via SPDIF (Coaxial)...for a few minutes

What is the expected output? What happens instead?
After a few minutes, with either an mp3 source, or a full DD 5.1 DVD 
source, usually about 15, but sometimes as quickly as 2 minutes, the sound 
output clicks and distorts or worse, the sound just stops. I have to 
switch off the speakers and turn them back on again. Then the whole 
process repeats itself.

What version of the driver are you using? On what operating system? What 
version of the operationg system are you using (32 or 64 bit)?
I'm using the 64 Bit WT driver for Vista 64

What ports of the soundcard are affected by the bug (e.g. SPDIF, Mic-In)?
SPDIF Output via Digital Coaxial

Please provide any additional information below.
I'm using Altec Lansing ADA885 4.1 speakers, which worked ok with the 
original Trust drivers, giving a 2 channel output, but not Dolby Digital.

Just for confirmation: your speakers _do_ work after you switched them off and 
on 
again while you haven't touched the player software, right? 

This is indeed odd - I suggest you try to modify the SPDIF output option in the 
control panel applet and see what happens. Presumably the receiver in your 
speaker's 
amplifier fails to hold the phase lock-up to the SPDIF signal.

Hi Dogber,

Thanks for the reply. Sometimes, the speakers do work after I've switched them 
off 
and on again without touching the player software, but more often than not, I 
have 
to restart the pc to get any sort of sound at all.

I fiddled around with the SPDIF output in the control panel applet, but that 
didn't 
help unfortunately. ANything else you could recommend?

This is odd - I suspect this is rather a hardware issue. Does this occur with 
the 
official driver occasionally when you boot Windows? Also, are power cables of 
the PC 
and the speakers connected to the same wall plug (do they run on the same 
phase)?

Yes, this does happen also with the official drivers. Sometimes, even switching 
off 
the speakers and putting them on again has no effect. I have to reboot the PC 
to get 
them to work.
The speakers are connected to a different socket in the wall.

This somewhat supports my assumption that it's a hardware problem after all. I 
suggest you try the same wall socket for PC and speakers and see whether this 
changes. Also, it might be a good idea to test the analog outputs of the card 
when 
the sound on the SPDIF port has crashed. If you can hear the sound, the cmedia 
card 
is presumably OK.
