*heavily* distorted sound after operating system crash #79

What soundcard to you have (make, model, chip)?

Aureon 5.1 FUN, CM8738

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Got it finally working without sound distortion (using spdif)
2. Enjoyed 24/96 sound for hours
3. XP crashed (not sure, why)

What is the expected output? What happens instead?

I'm getting really distorted sound, songs are recognisable..

What version of the driver are you using? On what operating system? What
version of the operationg system are you using (32 or 64 bit)?

32 bit XP sp2, CMIDriver-1.2.6-bin-x86.zip

What ports of the soundcard are affected by the bug (e.g. SPDIF, Mic-In)?

SPDIF (currently not able to verify other ports..)

Please provide any additional information below.

player: foobar2000, not using kernel streaming

Yesterday, I got this working - the sound via spdif was heavily distorted. I
fiddled with some bios settings to disable most of the onboard devices. Might
be a coincidence, but it started working.

This morning the computer crashed (due to unknown reason) and I got the problem
back. Plus, channel configuration is greyed out. "Apply" button says every time
that "SetSpeakerConfig() The parameter is incorrect".

jouni,
this sounds like a hardware failure more than a software issue. My gut feeling
is that the 8738 chip has been damaged - I suggest that you try the soundcard
in another PC with my driver and determine whether it works or not.
Good luck!
