how do we ensure proper :cat2: tribute as well as emoji equality across platforms? #48

@ngoldman perhaps some sort of feature-detection to see if emoji display properly, and then twemoji or similiar as a fallback?
From @ngoldman on April 30, 2015 17:42
can haz :cat2:? not sure how to feature detect for emoji support from w/in JS but I imagine it's possible
From @jden on April 30, 2015 18:3
rough idea: render raw unicode emoji off-screen, measure height and width of element
IRCCloud handles the situation pretty well. Here is a bit on that: https://blog.irccloud.com/emoji/
haha nice, they even take care not to emoji-ize IPv6 addresses
lol blogs about proper emoji handling
wait, IRC channels can have emoji as names? can #friends channels have that?
Someone was playing around with unicode names for channels last night :)
Only some servers on IRC seem to allow emoji channels #:cloud:
Was there ever any resolution in fixing the lack of proper :cat2:?
i considered opening an issue on twitter/twemoji but haven't got the courage
I believe in you, catmapper
