Remove of IRC links after freenode drama. #241

Closed kentaromiura closed 3 years ago

kentaromiura commented 3 years ago

I've been observing the freenode drama for a few days and up until now there was no evidence of abuse of power, but since now there is at least one case of OP abusing their power I think it's best to remove the link to the freenode channel at least for now.

We could replace the link and use another server, but since MooTools is pushing up the daisies and since I'm not sure of how many of us still actively monitor the channel I think the best option here is just to remove the link from the footer. users that have to maintain an older website can still reach out in the mailing list.

I believe this requires @kamicane blessing to be merged. Also probably needs deployment?

Unfortunately it looks like the SSH credentials have changed and I no longer have access to the server. I also do not know any longer how the site gets deployed. Perhaps @SergioCrisostomo knows? Maybe merging is enough and it gets auto-pulled?

As last resort, I can reset the root pwd to gain access, but I'd rather have someone with the proper credentials come forward so I don't take over. Just let me know.

MooTools FTW and I approve! 👍

@timwienk has been the one assuring the site is up and running and I think we need his manual deploy here. Will ping him also on this.

This chat was a really nice resource back in the days! 😄

I saw the PR, thanks for the ping! Been a super hectic few months for me, so not as quick as I want to be.

Regarding access to the server: there (still) are accounts for Valerio, Arian, Djamil, Darren, Aaron, Olmo, David, Cristian, Sergio and me. I'm definitely not the only one who could do it, but in practice I am the only one right now. Though I guess the nightly backups do more work than all of us combined on this thing, nowadays.

Oh, it's deployed btw, along with another change that was locally made on the server (probably by me) to fix something with Disqus.
